Max
the Mutt
Max the Mutt Animation School announces that they
are the first in Toronto to integrate ToonBoom's brand new
Storyboard Pro and Digital Pro into its curriculum. Based
on Disney and Warner Brothers guidelines, the curriculum includes
in-depth drawing classes, a year of cartooning, character
design, a sequence of visual language, storytelling and storyboarding
courses, background painting and background design. In year
three, computer courses are introduced, and will now include
Toon Boom’s professional products.
Sounds like a good way to get a good, well-rounded animation

Theme
Planet - short film
You know how it is. You're watching a film develop.
Maybe it's been a couple of years. Or 5. Sooner or later,
you just quit stopping by the development site. And if the
film ever crosses your mind, you just think, "Yeah, that
thing's dead. What could he be doing all this time?"
Well... Michael Sormann has given us an answer, at least as
regards his film "Theme Planet". At the Theme Planet
website, he's just released a short film, "Bunny Situation",
which he did for SIGGRAPH. Michael wants to be sure you know
the short is NOT Theme Planet, but just a short set in the
same universe.
It's a pretty charming short, gorgeous visuals, nice pacing.
Excellent music and sound. The best news? Bunny Situation
shows Michael really knows how to string a film together.
And now we can go back to waiting for the rest of Theme Planet,
I guess...

Mission:
Submission
For those of you who have submitted your film to AnimWatch
for consideration, the past few months have been insanely
busy here at AnimWatch World Headquarters. With all the stuff
going on, reviewing submissions fell to the bottom of the
list. At this writing, there are no less than 50 films waiting
to be reviewed.
We ask your continued patience while we dig through this unbelievable
treasure, and should we decide to profile your film, you will
hear from us. Thank you.

Guess
who?
On July 11, StoryMakers Studio brings several of the
biggest names in the cartoon world to the Grauman’s Chinese
Theatres Complex in Hollywood: celebrated author, film critic
and cartoon buff Leonard Maltin, six-time Emmy® Award winning
cartoon producer Phil Roman, and voice actors June Foray (“Woody
Woodpecker,” “Rocky and Bullwinkle,” Disney’s “Mulan”), Maurice
LaMarche (“Futurama, “Animaniacs,” “Pinky and the Brain”)
and Billy West (“The New Woody Woodpecker Show,” “Ren &
Stimpy,” “Futurama”).
“We wouldn’t be surprised if these voice artists spent part
of the evening talking as the characters they’re so well known
for,” said Ronn Campbell, StoryMakers Studio’s executive producer.
Everyone who signs up to watch the Woody Woodpecker event
has a choice of eBooks that are of interest to anyone who
currently works in animation, wants to work in animation,
or is simply an animation fan.
Details
of the event including how cartoon fans can enjoy StoryMakers
Studio’s Salute to Woody Woodpecker and Walter Lantz, can
be found at the Storymakers
website.
