Three giant robots rampaging the village: the workaholic,
the ignorant and the self-obsessed. Are these models our
future? Hiding behind a black and white, retro-styled veil,
3x Super Robot Heartbreak is an illustration of common attitudes
served with a sliver of hope.
Animator Pete Foley has come up with a film that has its
roots in both the retro zip of Art Deco graphic design and
the highly iconic, anything-goes aesthetic of Japanese manga
and anime. The characters are almost criminally simple,
but they still evoke an emotional response... even the robots.
It's quite a feat to bring such charming storytelling to
shadow puppet versions of inanimate objects.

"My name's Pete Foley. I'm an animator based in Brisbane,
Australia. Since graduating with a Batchelors of Animation
from the Queensland College of Art, I have made several
animated films, most visible being a promo film for Creative
Commons entitled 'Mayer and Bettle'. It had a huge global
circulation and is now opening for many of their conferences.
It's been translated into half a dozen languages.

'3x
Super Robot Heartbreak' was completed in 2 weeks. The deadline
was a robot exhibition being held at retro store Vinyl Frontier.
I finished the visuals with just 24hrs to spare, when I
shipped it to Japan for my long time collaborator (and co-founder
of Black brow) Chris Perren to stress over the audio.
The
film was made with a combination of Apple Motion, Moho and
Final Cut Pro.
