Lindsay Thompson's short film "The Look of Love"
is a fun little romantic comedy with a Pixar Animation visual
sense and a Bridget Jones sense of humour. The main character
is very appealing - cute, and a little clumsy. Yet the man
sharing the diner counter with her could not be less interested.
What's a girl got to do to get a little attention?
Lindsay's work on the film netted her a sweet job with effects
and animation heavy-hitter Rhythm and Hues. She's continuing
her work on the film in her spare time, and we are looking
forward to the final result.

"'The Look of Love'is my first short film. When I started
to think of an idea, I tried to think about what is appealing
to me. I'm a big fan of Pixar and their story process, so
when I came up with the story I wanted it to encompass all
the elements that go into one of their films: Humor, warmth,
cleverness, and attention to detail.

After
developing the story, I started to plan out the look of
the film. Again, I wanted it to feel like a Pixar, DreamWorks,
Disney, etc. quality film. My friend George Fuentes, an
amazing concept artist, and I designed the look of the diner
together and ended up with something really great. His final
renderings really capture the look I hope to achieve in
CG.

When
it came to constructing all the elements, I got a fellow
student, Andrew McMasters who is focusing on modeling, to
tackle the character and diner models. I finished it all
up with the rigging, texturing and some of the lighting.
After rendering for about a month, I finally got the piece
banged into semi final shape.
With a friend's advice, I have decided to continue to work
on The Look of Love a little bit more. I think it is pretty
good for the time I put into it, but a lot was rushed, and
it still needs some TLC. I'm goning to work on it in my
free time and hopefully have a final product in about 6
months.

I
hope the end result will be something everyone will enjoy
watching. At a short and sweet one and a half minutes, it'll
be a film you can enjoy over and over again."
